CRFU Spring 7s Tournament Done and Dusted

The final CRFU Spring 7s tournament was held on Saturday the 5th of November at Hoon Hay park and with that, the Prebbleton Senior players have completed the first phase of the #BTB Senior Summer Programme.

The team made it to the Bowl section after three very competitive pool games, going down 24-19 to Belfast and 24-12 to HSOB before getting up over Lyttleton 17-15.

The November 5th tournament, was one of three run over the last four weeks with the PRFC team performing well across the board.

The first tournament, held on the 15th of October, saw the boys taking out the final and of their section.

This was followed by a great effort at the second tournament on the 29th of October. Our boys pushed hard against Tournament One champs, University, only to go down 12-14 before beating Hornby 24-14 in the Bowl section. Though the team eventually went down against Marist in the semi-final, the team showed great improvement over the day.

Although the team only finished 12th out of 16 teams over the three tournaments, PRFC RDO Derek Todd (Toddy) considers this to be a successful campaign in that the boys achieved several of their #BTB goals.

"We are better than before at 7s and our performance has improved over each tournament with our players in the third tournament showing a much higher level of skill and understanding of the 7s game" explains Toddy. "We consistently had 20 to 24 players at trainings and gave 20 or more players the experience in playing in the tournament in a team consisting of Div 1, Div 2, Colts and U18 players. We have also successfully introduced some new to players to the Brothers Through Blue culture and we hope this means that they will stay to play for the 2017 season."

The next 7s tournament is the annual Woodend 7s at the end of January. Toddy is hoping that PRFC will be in a position to field two teams at this tournament, including one of all the forwards who are interested in testing their arm in the 7s game.
